I would greatly appreciate help with a problem thats driving me crazy.
When I hit file open, the computer pauses for three to ten seconds
before the files will come up to select. I keep my file open in "folders
view". It has been as short as three to four seconds, and the other day
I counted slowly to ten. Why is it delaying? I have SP4 installed. The
problem started happening after I tried to install a video card and did
install a DVD burner. I have looked at WP support site, but can't find
any help.

Ok, I just unchecked folders view, and the delay goes away, so it must
be something with that feature. Is that a plug in type feature? It used
to work very fast and smooth. I click on it and folder view comes right
up, and any directory selected same thing. Now its a delay.

Thank you for any suggestions.

I found my problem. I am on a home network, and WP support says when
folder view is checked, it scans the network before allowing access, and
that I should not use folder view. (My OS is 2000, and not XP, but I
still have problem. Oh well). Has anyone found a work around? Thanks.

Not I. I do not need one. There is a tiny P2P network here under Win2K
(one PC Win98SE) and I see no difference whether one PC is fired up or 3.
What printer do you have? How is your printer connected? Does Windows
list any that do not exist/are unavailable?

L.,

I use an HP 6 laserjet an HP photosmart (color inkjet) and two virtual
printers Fineprint (multi pages on one) and Fineprint PDF (I know I can
get the features of my virtuals in resident, but Fineprint is the best
virtual I have found for my needs). So I don't think its a printer
problem............could it be that network is with my laptop and its
not always on???? I didn't have problem before networking and it goes
away when I deactivate folder view.

It might be so.
Try creating a profile without the sometimes-missing printer/s.
If that does solve the problem, you could choose your profile
according to circumstances.
